B-Grade Movies

Now, if there is one weakness I have, it’s watching b-grade movies. My friends make fun of me for it, but watching a movie that you don’t need to take serious at all, and it does anything it likes, well, that’s a great movie night at my place. The last one I watched was Sharknado. Concept was crazy, but I loved the idea of sharks in a tornado, flying out like missiles.  And the scene with the chainsaw toward the end of the movie left me gobsmacked… You’ve got to see it, that’s all I’m saying. Baking Is My Time-Out

Everyone has an escape vice, and when I’m not writing, you can probably find me baking something sweet and yummy. I thought I’d share a no-bake cheesecake cupcake recipe:)

Ingredients

  • 250g Arnott’s Butternut Snap Cookies (or any sweet cookies you prefer)
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 4 ½ tablespoons caster (superfine) sugar
  • 250g cream cheese
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 heaped teaspoon gelatin melted in ¼ cup boiled water
  • ¾ cup cream, lightly whipped

Method

1. Crush the cookies until they resemble fine crumbs in a food processor or blender. Mix in the melted butter until well combined.

2. Spoon half a tablespoon into a cupcake patty and press mixture down. The quantity used for the base of the cheesecakes can be varied depending on how thick you like it. Place the patties with bases into the fridge while you make the cheesecake mixture.

TipPlace the patties with the prepared bases into baking trays – this ensures they hold their shape when you add the cheesecake mixture.

3. In another bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar and vanilla extract until smooth. Add the melted gelatin and combine into the mixture.

4. Fold the lightly whipped cream into the cheesecake mixture.

5. Spoon the cheesecake mixture into the prepared cupcake patties, then refrigerate for at least a few hours before serving if you can’t wait. Otherwise best left overnight.

6. Decorate your cupcakes or experiment with different fillings. I added half a teaspoon of caramel condensed milk into the centre of the cheesecake cupcake before refrigerating for a surprise filling. Or sandwich cheesecake between two cookies.

We’re in week 2 of the Cloaked in Fur Virtual Book Tour, and week 1 was fantastic. I can’t believe how quickly it whizzed by. It was wonderful to see my book on so many blogs and websites. And over the weekend, I nutted out last changes to my new website. I will be revealing it this week!! Wow, it’s all happening so quickly.

Christine Rains, the wonderful author of The 13th Floor series, has tagged me. I simply answer four questions, and then I tag four new people.

Let’s get started:

1. What are you working on right now?

Right now, I’m plotting book 2 and 3 of Cloaked in Fur. I’m also half way through a new young adult fantasy novel, which is made up of three parts about six characters. It is set in a world filled with witches, steampunk monsters and magic, and at the heart of the story, there’s the struggle to find love.

2. How does it differ from other works in its genre? 

My YA novel is a blend of different genres, which I tend to love doing, plus it’s told from six POVs, and each character brings their own personality and backstory to the mix.

3. What is the hardest part about writing?

The funny thing is that whatever part I’m up to I say is the hardest. Whatever I’m not doing at the time seems like the better option. Hehe. I know, it doesn’t answer the question. Writing the first draft would probably have to be the hardest since you are making up the story with nothing but your imagination and scribbled notes.

4. What would you like to try as a writer that you haven’t yet?

I’ve always wanted to try a mystery… like a ‘who done it’. Maybe one day:)

Before the launch of Cloaked in Fur, I was super excited and nervous and probably a thousand other emotions, but one thing that worried me was getting bad reviews. Sure, my critique partners had read my book and gave me a lot of support, but now that’s it’s out in the real world,  things are different. People have different tastes and perspectives. I don’t want to get hung up on what reviews say. I want to be one of those authors who don’t even read reviews, but they keep moving forward, working on their new project. So far, I’ve failed miserably at being like that. Maybe that comes with time:)

Over a week ago, hubby, a few friends and I attended Australia’s first PAX event, and for those not familiar with it, it’s a gaming convention set up by Penny Arcade that originated in the US – Seattle more specifically. Now, while I may not be a huge gamer, hubby sure is. We’d been to the one in Seattle and Boston, but it was so exciting to visit the first one ever down here in Australia. The tickets sold out in no time, and apparently the 2014 event has already been booked. Woohoo.

Anyway, I thought I’d share some fun pics from the event. For me, I enjoy finding new indie games to support and try out, plus the convention is a hot spot for writing inspirations. And I do have Just Dance at home… I’ve been known to do a few dances to it when friends pop over – they join me of course:) hehe. Continue Reading »
